Why we exist

India's wilderness deserves better than a footnote.

India holds some of the most varied and breathtaking wilderness on earth — from the high cold deserts of Ladakh and Spiti to the ancient rainforests of the Western Ghats, the dune seas of Rajasthan, and the glacier-fed valleys of Uttarakhand. Most of it is still largely unknown to the people who live closest to it.

Camping India is a field atlas built by campers, for campers. We map verified campsites, write honest field guides, curate the gear that actually works in Indian conditions, and build a community of explorers who share what they learn — so the next person can go further, safer, and with more respect for the land.

We believe camping is not just a way to sleep cheaply. It is a way to slow down, pay attention, and build a real relationship with a place. When you camp, you notice the weather, the soil, the birdsong at dawn, and the people who have lived in these landscapes for generations. That attention is the beginning of care.

Our camp code

Four principles we carry into every landscape

Leave it better than you found it

Pack out everything you pack in. Pick up what others left behind. Restore fire rings. Leave a campsite cleaner, quieter, and more intact than when you arrived. This is the minimum.

Explore honestly

We share real conditions — difficult access roads, permit requirements, seasonal closures, altitude risks. No glamourising. No hiding the hard parts. Honest field knowledge keeps people safe and ecosystems intact.

Respect what was here first

Every campsite sits inside someone's homeland. We listen before we act, buy local when we can, follow community rules, and treat every region as far more than a backdrop for our adventure.

Share what you learn

A field note written after a hard trip is worth more than a thousand stock photos. We encourage every camper to document their experience — conditions, gear, routes, mistakes — so the collective knowledge of India's wilderness keeps growing.

The invitation

Go. Look carefully. Come back changed.

Whether you are pitching your first tent in a Coorg coffee estate or navigating a 5,000 m pass in Ladakh, the wilderness of India will meet you where you are. All we ask is that you bring curiosity, preparation, and the intention to leave every place better than you found it. The wild is not a destination. It is a responsibility.
